Description
A Note About Our Hiring Process
We're excited to be building the team at The Point Surf Park! As a new operation, we're developing our team and processes from the ground up. Our hiring process may take longer than you typically expect, and we appreciate your patience as we carefully review applications and prepare for opening.
Thank you for your interest in being part of The Point Surf Park. We look forward to connecting with qualified candidates as we move through the hiring process!
The Point Surf Park is looking for skilled, safety-focused Water Patrol Team Members to provide active in-water safety and help keep our surf sessions organized, professional, and fun.
This is an active in-water position. Water Patrol Team Members monitor guests, boards, waves, channels, and changing conditions while helping surfers safely enter the water, find the correct position, understand wave priority, navigate the lineup, and exit at the end of their session.
We are looking for strong swimmers and capable surfers who stay calm under pressure, communicate clearly, recognize developing hazards, and are willing to intervene when something does not look right.
• Maintain active in-water or assigned shoreline coverage.
• Monitor guests, boards, wave patterns, channels, entry and exit areas, and changing conditions.
• Identify fatigue, panic, unsafe positioning, poor board control, skill mismatch, collision risks, and other concerns early.
• Intervene professionally before unsafe situations develop.
• Redirect guests or request additional assistance when conditions require it.
• Help guests understand water entry, paddling routes, lineup position, wave priority, safe distance, channels, session boundaries, and exit procedures.
• Support safe session starts, transitions, wave changes, water clearing, emergency stops, restarts, and guest exits.
• Help maintain organized guest flow without compromising safety.
• Work closely with Wave Operations, Lifeguards, Surf Instruction, and Operations.
• Perform board-assisted guest assists, rescues, and other Emergency Action Plan responsibilities within your current training and certification.
• Retrieve loose boards and assist guests when appropriate.
• Activate additional resources immediately for missing or distressed guests, injuries, suspected spinal events, collisions, submerged persons, or other serious or uncertain conditions.
• Participate in emergency drills and ongoing rescue training.
• Inspect rescue boards, fins, leashes, radios, whistles, PPE, first-aid resources, access points, and assigned equipment.
• Remove questionable or damaged equipment from use and report it immediately.
• Complete opening, shift-change, rotation, and closing responsibilities.
• Communicate using approved radio, whistle, hand-signal, and face-to-face procedures.
• Complete assist, rescue, first-aid, collision, equipment, near-miss, guest-removal, and safety documentation accurately and objectively.
• Clearly communicate unresolved safety concerns during shift handoffs.
• Current CPR, AED, First Aid, and water-rescue or Lifeguard credentials designated by The Point Surf Park required before independent assignment.
• Strong swimming, paddling, surfing, surfboard-control, and water-entry skills.
• Successful completion of The Point’s water skills, rescue, physical-readiness, and park-specific competency assessments required.
• Surfing, ocean, wave-pool, aquatic safety, surf rescue, Water Patrol, Lifeguard, coaching, or comparable experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of waves, surf positioning, board movement, and water hazards.
• Ability to stay calm and make sound decisions during rescues, injuries, guest conflicts, and changing conditions.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to give guests direct but respectful safety instructions.
• Dependability, teamwork, coachability, physical readiness, and strong judgment.
You are comfortable in the water and respect how quickly conditions can change.
You pay attention to the whole session, not just the wave in front of you.
You can give clear direction to a guest without turning it into a confrontation.
You recognize when someone is tired, overwhelmed, out of position, or losing control before it becomes an emergency.
You do not hesitate to ask for help when something is uncertain.
Most importantly, you understand that safety comes before catching one more wave.
Schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, training sessions, weather-related changes, and periods of high guest volume.
Regular and reliable attendance, punctuality, physical readiness, and the ability to remain for the full assigned shift are essential.

• Lift, carry, push, pull, launch, retrieve, and control rescue boards and equipment and assist guests weighing up to 50 pounds, or more with team assistance when appropriate
• Communicate clearly over radio, by whistle or hand signal, and in person.
• Work outdoors in Florida heat, humidity, rain, wind, direct sunlight, water, and changing wave conditions.
