Provide security for the safety and protection of Hospitals patients, staff, general public, and properties.  Patrols, periodically, buildings and grounds of Hospital.  Examines doors, windows, and other points of entry to determine that they are secure. Tags and records all points of entry found unlocked or unsecured. Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts, in accordance to applicable laws. Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of Hospital property.
Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and other acts of suspicious instances. Records all incidents in writing or electronic media. Assists local authorities with investigation of incidents committed on Hospital properties. Reports all criminal acts to the appropriate Security Leadership and or local authorities. Assists Hospital staff as required providing protection and safety to patients or other individuals. Adheres to all general orders and or special orders as directed.

Job Description

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Participates in the Hospital emergency room programs.
2. Ability to effectively deal with a wide range of public safety issues handling a multitude of variables in changing situations.
3. Ability to interpret and understand written and oral instructions.
4. Ability to apply common sense understanding to instructions that may be furnished by way of written document, oral command or diagram.
5. Ability to cooperate with law enforcement agencies consistent with the Hospital’s legal obligation to protect the rights and privileges of its patients in accordance with Federal and State Laws.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

2. Obtain and satisfactorily complete the initial 8 hour Hospital Orientation Program and Annual Competency Reviews and any other training as may be occasionally mandated.
3. Valid Driver's License required

4. Successful completion of Management of Aggressive Behavior within 30 days of hire required.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. One years related experience and/or training in public safety. 

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
