Job Description

Enterhealth is a nationally recognized leader in the addiction field. The Mental Health Technicians (MHT) are responsible for providing support to the collaborative care team and patients, as outlined in Enterhealth policies and defined in the Texas Department of State Health Services, Chapter 448 Standard of Care. The MHTs should promote a safe and professional environment conducive to recovery. Participating in activities including assisting patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), ensuring patient attendance and safety, performing safety inspections, and maintaining compliance with Enterhealth policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Promote a safe and secure environment to provide for the safe delivery of care.
  • Monitor environmental and campus safety and report concerns to appropriate departments for resolution.
  • Ensure clients and the facility are free of alcohol, drugs, and/or contraband by following an aggressive search policy, which includes an initial admit process for new clients, clients returning from pass, ongoing random, and suspicion searches of living quarters and personal belongings. Complete all required documentation and notify the management team of any contraband and/or illegal items.
  • Support clinical staff and maintain client contact, including providing support to clients in times of stress. De-escalate as required.
  • Assist in facilitating the treatment milieu, helping motivate the client to a life of recovery and abstinence from drug and alcohol addiction. Monitor clients are on time and meet their daily scheduled activities.
  • Communicate pertinent clinical information to the treatment team.
  • Complete shift duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
  • Interact with client and family in an advocacy and informative role.
  • Administer "Lost & Found" items in accordance with policy. Accurately document and report as required.
  • Answer telephones and use the paging system appropriately as required.
  • Accept assignments to various activities as census dictates and be available for various shifts as needed.
  • Participate in codes to protect the staff, clients, and others, reacting calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Participate in team meetings and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Safely transport clients as assigned.
  • Assist nursing personnel in the collection of lab specimens according to policy.
  • Monitor client attendance at community group sessions. Accurately document and report as required.
  • Monitor clients' whereabouts by conducting hourly rounds, 15 minutes for detox clients. Document according to policy.
  • Assist with ADLs as required.
  • Monitor client valuables. Document (sign in/out) who has possession of valuables.
  • Document client medical records appropriately and accurately.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and adherence to Enterhealth Policies and Procedures.
  • Conduct and monitor clients' scheduled smoke breaks, safely and on time.
  • Assist with client room changes/moves and document any damages or missing items.
  • Monitor compliance and control of room keys assigned to clients, reporting and documenting any lost or damaged keys.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that campus common areas, including kitchens, are kept clean and presentable. The tech staff is responsible when housekeeping staff members are not on duty.
  • Provide continuous client care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in dress, attitude, and performance in support of the community milieu

Qualifications:

  • High School Degree or equivalent and/or Certified Nursing Assistant, or Some College. Preferred a degree in pyschology, or smiliar. 
  • 0-2 years chemical dependency/mental health technician experience and/or experience/education in crisis stabilization, chemical dependency, and/or mental illness.
  • Strong communication skills in both oral and written formats are recommended.
  • Must be flexible and customer service-oriented.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
