Overview

Overview:

Gain experience in healthcare strategy as a  Market Access Intern at Werfen this summer! In this role, you will gain hands-on experience analyzing reimbursement trends, evaluating payer policies, and determining medical policies and utilization constraints that may impact test adoption. You will work closely with the Market Access Manager to transform data into insights that guide that identify opportunities and barriers to access and help optimize the commercial success of diagnostic solutions. This 8-10 week paid internship offers a unique blend of analytics, healthcare policy, and real-world business impact. Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop a comprehensive reimbursement landscape overview for autoimmune IVD assays, including variability across payers, geographies, and sites of care
  • Conduct structured analyses of payer medical policies to identify coverage criteria, restrictions, and implications for patient access and test adoption
  • Evaluate Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs) and other utilization constraints to assess their impact on billing, clinical practice, and commercial opportunity
  • Synthesize findings into clear, actionable insights and presentations to support cross-functional decision-making and market access strategy

Networking/Key relationships

  • Marketing Product Managers – The intern supports the development of market access strategies and value messaging by providing insights and analyses, with a focus on translating data into actionable, business-oriented recommendations.
  • NoA marketing team - The intern gathers local insights on reimbursement, payer dynamics, and market barriers, ensuring alignment across geographies and translating local realities into global insights.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience for the position:

  • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Public Health, Health Economics, or Business with a healthcare focus
  • Experience: Prior exposure to healthcare systems, reimbursement, or payer dynamics (through coursework, research projects, or internships) is preferred but not required.

Management has the discretion of substituting relevant work experience for a degree and/or making exceptions to the years of experience requirement.

Skills & Capabilities:

  • Analytical thinking: Ability to evaluate complex healthcare, reimbursement, and policy data and extract meaningful insights
  • Attention to detail: Capability to ensure accuracy and consistency when working with reimbursement data, policies, and assumptions
  • Communication skills: Ability to clearly summarize findings and present insights through PowerPoint and written deliverables
  • Business and strategic mindset: Understanding how data translates into market access implications, including opportunities and barriers to adoption
  • Collaboration and adaptability: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and adjust to evolving project needs and priorities

The hourly range for this role is $20/hr to $26/hr. Individual compensation will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience and grade level completed.
