Nursing Assistants are responsible for working closely with the nurse to provide excellent direct patient care. This person supports activities of daily living (ADL's) with patients and prevents complications.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and Report: Take vital signs as scheduled, and promptly report any changes in physical, mental, or emotional condition to the RN.
  • Assist with Personal Care: Support patients with personal hygiene, bowel/bladder care, and monitor intake/output and weights.
  • Patient Mobility and Positioning: Assist with ambulation and repositioning to prevent immobility-related complications.
  • Patient Education and Safety: Reinforce education on tools like incentive spirometers and help maintain a clean, safe bedside area.
  • Hourly Rounding and Flexibility: Round on each patient hourly to ensure needs are met and assist patients and teammates as needed.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • High school or equivalent experience

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • NYS Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA)
  • Previous patient care experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent hand and finger use (e.g., to operate a computer keyboard).
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs. (e.g., boxes, equipment, IV solutions), with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch for tasks such as retrieving items from lower shelves or filing in low drawers.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, as the position may require.
  • Capacity to operate job-related equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Location and Shift Information:

  • Location: Onsite at Cayuga Medical Center: 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850
  • Shift: Three 12-hour shifts per week 6:45am - 7:15pm; every other weekend and holidays as assigned
  • 0% Travel can be expected in this role

Pay Range Disclosure:

  • Standard Rate of $16.00 - $24.00 per hour plus benefits
