The Classical Hematology APP Fellowship at Baptist Health South Florida’s Miami Cancer Institute is a comprehensive one-year training program designed to equip Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, with the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the field of classical hematology.

This fellowship offers a unique blend of clinical experience, didactic education, and research opportunities. Fellows will engage in multidisciplinary care, collaborating with a team of experts to provide high-quality, patient-centered care while gaining exposure to evidence-based therapies and innovative treatment approaches in hematologic disease management. Our oncology program is committed to fostering the next generation of leaders in classical hematology and oncology, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the evolving challenges of this dynamic specialty. Fellows are trained alongside experienced Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and physician experts dedicated to advancing hematologic and oncologic care.

Throughout the one-year fellowship, participants will immerse themselves in a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes both clinical and scholarly development. Fellows will rotate through various specialized services, gaining hands-on experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of a broad range of classical hematologic disorders, including anemia, clotting and bleeding disorders, sickle cell disease, thrombophilia, benign leukocyte disorders, and other conditions.

In addition to clinical training, fellows will have opportunities to participate in scholarly activities, including quality improvement initiatives, research projects, presentations at professional conferences, and contributions to educational programs. This multifaceted approach enhances clinical competency while fostering a culture of inquiry, collaboration, and professional growth, preparing fellows to become influential practitioners and future leaders in hematology and oncology.

Qualifications:


Degrees:

  • Masters.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • NCCPA Certified Physician Assistant.
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • BLS Certification
  • ANCC or AANP certification
  • DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) License
  • NPI (National Provider Identifier) registration

Additional Qualifications:

  • Advanced practice providers (APP) fellows must have successfully graduated from an accredited institution with a master graduate degree or higher and maintain/be compliant with certifications & licensures throughout their time at BHSF.
  • APP Fellows must be compliant with state requirements for CEU‘s and Licensure Renewal (Including: Medical Errors, HIV/AIDS & Domestic violence done on initial Certification). 
  • Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and basic computer knowledge.
  • CITI certification within the first (3) months of the Fellowship program.
