Job Description

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Inspecting buildings, equipment, and systems to identify any issues.
  • Complete make-readies and tossing of apartments as tenants depart
  • Repairing faulty equipment units and damaged structures, and performing minor fixes such as repairing broken locks, filling gaps on walls, etc.
  • Developing and implementing preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Managing and troubleshooting heating and plumbing systems to guarantee functionality.
  • Conducting periodic checks on equipment and systems to ensure everything is up to standard.
  • Performing general maintenance tasks including landscaping, painting, and carpentry.
  • Maintaining inventory records for equipment and supplies.
  • Inspect and basic troubleshooting of control panels, electrical wiring, and installing appliances, fixtures, and shelving
  • Drywall and sheet rock repair/installation
  • Check functionality of safety systems (e.g. fire alarm)
  • Collaborate with workers and other professionals during renovations
  • Report any maintenance issues to the Executive Director
  • Adheres to and completes all necessary work pertaining to your department to fulfill the requirements of all policies, procedures, and standards of the Mary Lee Foundation, and applicable outside agencies including but not limited to HHSC, TWC, HUD, and other agencies.
  • Serve one scheduled On-Call week/weekend per month, and as needed

*Responsibilities are not limited to the above list and may include other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems
  • Experience using hand and electrical tools
  • Ability to read technical manuals and drawings
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical stamina and dexterity
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Qualifications: 

  • Clean background check
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of experience with apartment maintenance at the professional level
  • Familiar with HHSC, HUD, or TWC standards or willing to learn
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Valid Driver’s License (preferred)

The overriding goal of Mary Lee Foundation is to move individuals with physical, mental and emotional disabilities toward independent life in the community after having equipped them with the social, emotional, and vocational skills necessary for survival in the world. Our programs include: AFFORDABLE HOUSING: 215 affordable apartments are home to Austin's seniors, veterans, adults with disabilities, individuals and families with very low income, and adults experiencing near homelessness. Full time case managers are available to assist residents with applications for food stamps, medical care, special transit, attendants, and other needs. FOOD PANTRY: On average 270 individuals a month access our onsite food pantry, which is available weekly to all tenants, easing their food insecurities and providing needed nutrition. ADULT DISABILITY SERVICES: Over 100 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are cared for through our State licensed Intermediate Care Facilities, Home and Community-Based Services and Texas Home Living programs. DAYBREAK ACTIVITY CENTER: Monday through Friday, our community building hosts a day program for approximately 70 adults with disabilities. BRAIN INJURY SERVICES: Annually, our licensed Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center and extended care programs help over 40 adult survivors regain everyday living and job skills lost as a result of a brain injury or other neurological disorder.
