Job Summary: 

The Phlebotomist is responsible for the proper collection and handling of specimens as appropriate for  patients in the hospital and PHP location. The Phlebotomist is able to handle all areas of processes and procedures while maintaining a friendly and customer service approach with patients. Accurately and efficiently reports critical results and monitors incoming results from reference labs and logs/communicates results to providers. Candidates must be able to assist in and physical crisis intervention when necessary. 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Draws blood competently, consistently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
  • Identifies the patient using the two-unique identifiers described in the hospital’s policy before services are provided.
  • Records phlebotomy requisitions on log.
  • Displays courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff.

Qualifications

EDUCTION/EXPERIENCE:  Must have High School Diploma or Equivalent. Graduate of an accredited Phlebotomy Certificate program or Medical Assisting program required.  At least 6 months of active phlebotomy and specimen collection experience is rstrongly preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification highly desired.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:  Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification through National Healthcare Association (NHA).
