Employment Status: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Starting Pay Rate: $14.48/hr - $18.10/hr

Experience Required: Some experience working in custodial housekeeping or equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the job. 

Minimum Education Requirements: High School diploma or G.E.D.

Department: Building and Grounds.

Direct Supervisor: Manager Building and Grounds.

Supervisory Responsibility: Direct (0); Indirect (0) 

Primary Work Location: Zoo Setting both indoors and outdoors.

Certification: N/A

Other: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Job Summary: The Housekeeping Technician performs a variety of cleaning and minor building maintenance/repair activities in and around assigned Zoo exhibits/facilities. This position ensures that the general public and staff enjoy a clean and safe environment.

Essential Job Functions

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:

  • Perform general cleaning and housekeeping inside building over an assigned area such as cleaning and sanitizing public restrooms, vacuuming and disinfecting floors, washing windows, dusting furniture, and emptying trash cans.
  • Assist with maintaining outside cleanliness of grounds by picking up litter/trash, emptying trash containers, hosing down ramps/patios, clearing pathways, sidewalks, parking lots, and drives.
  • Collects trash and recycling and ensures correct disposal in accordance with Zoo conservation efforts.
  • Represent the zoo in a professional manner and provide quality customer service to our guests.
  • Guide assigned part time team members and delegate tasks to ensure cleanliness of the Zoo. 
  • Assist Junior Curators and Volunteers throughout their day and ensure productivity.
  • Order supplies from the warehouse to supply the assigned area and keep up organization of closets.
  • Prepare various written materials and reports (e.g. supply orders, activity logs, FMX work orders.)
  • Assist in the preparation and clean up after special events including rearranging furniture and proper receptacles placed and returned.
  • Actively promote and contribute to the Oklahoma City Zoo’s sustainability initiatives and green practices.
  • Run light machinery for designated areas like floor scrubbers or floor waxing machines.
  • Perform minor building maintenance duties as needed.
  • Assisting with radio calls and responding to immediate safety and/or operational concerns. 
  • Communicate effectively with Buildings Management Team throughout the day to complete assigned tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Assist with the Zoo’s various conservation efforts, such as Waste Audit and Lake Clean Up.
  • Participate in conservation activities to support Zoo’s mission.
