Job Description

Job Summary:
A credentialed non-licensed health care provider employed by Erlanger Health Care System is responsible for direct and indirect care of patients in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab (CCL) and provide care for patients from other areas when requested. The services they provide are under the direct supervision of licensed team members in the CCL. These service include, but are not limited to patient preparation for procedures, patient transport, patient positioning, room turn-over/cleaning, sheath removal, EKGs, Vital Sign, phlebotomy, establishing a sterile field, sterile table set up, restocking supplies, & inventory management. The cardiovascular technician plays a key role assisting licensed team members with various emergencies associated with the patient population served.

Education:
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent or meet one of the preferences.

Preferred:
Prior Credentialing for Sheath Removal.
Active certification in one of the following: Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Tennessee, First Responder, EMT, Nursing student having completed Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Assistant, Pre-Med student, Military Corpsman, Combat Life Saver or Combat Medic or Surgical Technician. Any of these may apply and work in a Patient Care Technician position, but must function within the guidelines, skills, and pay grade outlined for the Patient Care Technician. Those who were employed as a Patient Care Technician prior to 3-1-2004 and do not have the above educational requirements will be grandfathered in as a Patient Care Technician. He/She must successfully complete an Erlanger fundamentals checklist, observed demonstration, and pass a written exam.

Required: BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.

CNA certification, EMT licensure, First Responder, MA certification

Department Position Summary:
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the Cardiac Catheterization (CCL) Lab of Erlanger Health Systems. As a credentialed, non-licensed member of the CCL team they are responsible for direct and indirect care under direct supervision by licensed team members in the CCL. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Possesses the ability to assess
data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described as described in the CCL policies and procedures.
