BRAZOS VALLEY SCHOOLS CREDIT UNION

Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union began in 1954 when W.D. Fussell, a Katy ISD business officer, founded a small, educator‑focused credit union that literally kept its first deposits in a shoebox. Early members pooled funds to make the very first loan, setting the tone for a culture built on trust and teamwork. Originally chartered as Tri‑County Teachers Credit Union, it served educators in Waller County, Fort Bend County, and Katy ISD. As membership expanded across a wider region, the organization adopted the name Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union to reflect its 13‑county reach. Its mission remained centered on supporting educators—initially by helping new teachers bridge the gap before their first paycheck, and later by serving growing communities. A major milestone came in 2013 with a significant membership expansion, allowing the credit union to serve anyone living, working, worshiping, or attending school within 51 school districts. From a single office in Katy, BVSCU has grown into 12 branches serving more than 65,000 members across a broad region. Throughout its history, the credit union has stayed committed to trust, service, and community.
