Role Overview

The IT Service Desk Associate provides first‑level technical support to end users while gaining hands‑on experience in IT operations. This role supports day‑to‑day IT service desk activities including device setup, troubleshooting, documentation, conference room support, and inventory management. The apprentice will also assist with process improvements and basic automation initiatives, gaining exposure to modern IT tools, cloud technologies, and service management workflows.

The ideal candidate will have an anticipated graduation date of May 2028 and be able to work part-time (20-28 hours per week) while taking classes.  During breaks from school, the intern may work a fulltime schedule.   

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with both technical and non‑technical users
  • Log, track, and update support requests using the service desk ticketing system
  • Provide first‑level IT support for hardware, software, and basic system issues
  • Set up, configure, reimage, and deploy laptops and other IT equipment
  • Support conference room technology and manage IT inventory
  • Assist new hires with onboarding and basic IT system training
  • Create and maintain simple documentation such as how‑to guides and process instructions
  • Identify opportunities to improve and modernize IT processes, including building basic automation to increase efficiency
  • Work collaboratively with the IT team and escalate issues appropriately
  • Participate in IT projects and process improvement initiatives
  • Handle sensitive information responsibly and follow security best practices
  • Comply with all EHS policies and report unsafe activities
  • Contribute to departmental goals, teamwork, and a positive work environment
  • Maintain the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program in a technology‑related field with a graduation date of May 2028 or later. 
  • Ability to make sound judgment decisions based on specifications or technical requirements
  • Basic mathematical skills sufficient to perform job‑related calculations
  • Novice knowledge of Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, Project)
  • Preferred (not required):
  • Exposure to infrastructure, networking, and cloud environments (Azure)
  • Familiarity with tools such as Tanium, Endpoint Manager, SAP, Dynamics CRM, Windchill, SharePoint SPO, or project management software.
