Job Description

Medicaid Application Specialist (Program Assistant) 

Summary:  The Medicaid Application Specialist is an integral member of the administrative services and service delivery team responsible for providing clients at Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority, Lake Charles Behavioral Health Clinic with prompt access to appropriate behavioral health services. 

Position Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains a person centered, recovery orientation to clients regarding their appointments, attentive to engagement and readiness to serve
  • Completes Medicaid applications for new/non clients and renewals
  • Verifies Medicaid insurance for Walk In Clinic
  • Assists Accounting Department as needed
  • Researches client denials and works toward approval
  • Responds to clients timely to inform of the decision of their application
  • Responds to routine emails within one hour while on duty; responds to emergency/urgent emails immediately and emails and telephone calls promptly
  • Arranges absence from duty station with Supervisor
  • Maintains complete and accurate records on persons interviewed for service
  • Accepts and performs additional duties assigned by Supervisor necessary for the smooth operation of the Clinic

Required Education and Experience: This position requires a High school diploma, Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. The individual must be proficient on office equipment including computer, copy machines and fax machines with excellent organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills with a high level of dependable attendance.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee can sometimes be exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
