Job Description

Job Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the Same-day Surgery Center provides essential nursing care under the supervision of a Staff RN for surgery patients. The CNA supports these patients with the activities of daily living and ensures their basic care and comfort. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of patient care plans and delivering safe, competent nursing care in line with Gritman Medical Center’s standards and guidelines from the Idaho State Board of Nursing, American Nurses’ Association, and the Joint Commission. The CNA communicates effectively with the care team, adheres to the mission, vision, and values of Gritman Medical Center, and reports patient outcomes appropriately. This position will also provide coverage and will be cross trained and fulfill the competencies and education in the following area’s and roles Anesthesia Technician (see job description 8099), and Sterile Tech (see job description 9212). Utilization of this role will depend on patient care census and need.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic nursing care and assist patients with daily activities.

  • Support nursing staff with patient care plans.

  • Ensure safe and competent nursing care.

  • Communicate effectively with caregivers and the patient care team.

  • Report patient outcomes to the supervising nurse.

Job Requirements:

Education:

    • Completion of an approved nursing assistant course.

Licenses and Certifications:

    • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in Idaho.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Physical Demands:

  • Considerable lifting, positioning, and transferring of patients.
  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Good manual and finger dexterity, visual acuity, depth perception, and focusing ability.
  • Essential hearing, speech, and sense of touch capabilities.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Regular exposure to risks of bloodborne and other infectious diseases.
  • Interaction with patients under varying circumstances, including emergencies and crisis situations.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous fumes and unpredictable situations.
  • Occasionally subjected to irregular hours or shifts.
