Job Description

Department: Housing, Development and Planning, reporting to Property Manager 

Hours: 14-21 hrs/week

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support our property management team in modernizing how we manage, analyze, and use data across our residential portfolio. This role is ideal for a student interested in real estate, data systems, and the practical application of AI in operations.

The intern will play a key role in improving internal systems that support property performance tracking, tenant communication, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

· Assess and reorganize existing file structures, data systems, and property management records

· Standardize and improve trackers, templates, and documentation used across the portfolio

· Build and enhance Excel-based tools and/or dashboards to support reporting and decision-making

· Develop systems to track key metrics such as maintenance requests, costs, occupancy, and communications

AI-Focused Responsibilities:

· Leverage tools such as Microsoft Copilot (or similar) to automate reporting, summarize data, and generate insights

· Design smart workflows that reduce manual data entry and improve accuracy

· Implement AI-assisted document organization, tagging, and search capabilities

· Create dashboards or models that highlight trends, patterns, or anomalies in property operations

· Explore opportunities for predictive insights (e.g., recurring maintenance issues, budget trends)

Impact of the Role

The intern’s work will:

· Improve efficiency and data integrity across property management operations

· Enhance communication workflows with residents through better tools and templates

· Enable clearer tracking of property performance and operational trends

· Lay the groundwork for ongoing use of AI in property management systems

Qualifications

· Current undergraduate or graduate student (or recent graduate) in Real Estate, Business Analytics, Data Science/Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field

· Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (experience with advanced functions, data organization, or dashboards preferred)

· Interest in applying AI tools to real-world business problems

· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

· Attention to detail and interest in process improvement

Preferred (but not required):

· Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)

· Familiarity with property management, real estate operations, or nonprofit/community development work

· Exposure to AI-enabled tools for data analysis or workflow automation

Learning Opportunities
