The program’s purpose is to develop and nurture capable nonprofit sector professionals on a continuing basis. The UWMD TI Founders Leadership Fellows program represents a key component of the learning process for college graduate students and recent graduates with an interest in a career in the nonprofit sector. (Recent graduates must have received degrees within the six months prior to the Fellowship.) Fellows will gain hands-on experience working at UWMD under the direction of department supervisors, who will provide guidance and supervision to prepare Fellows for professional responsibilities in nonprofit organizations. The one-year TI Founders Leadership Fellows program provides the opportunity for Fellows to gain an in-depth and well-rounded perspective on work in the nonprofit sector and foster an understanding of the conceptualization, planning and teamwork involved. Fellows will be supervised by one or more experienced UWMD staff members. Fellowships will be one year in duration, will include a stipend for the year, and access to health benefits. Fellows may work on an individual project or on a combination of projects in various areas of United Way operations, including: Community Impact Generalist Advocacy Early Education Data Capacity Building Workforce & Economic Mobility Fellows will be assigned to a project or projects according to department need, their future goals, education and work experience. These young leaders will gain experience in best practices and learn to plan and execute projects to support United Way’s priorities. Examples of past projects that Fellows have supported include grant management and program support of planning the advocacy trip to Austin for donors, program support for Dollars for College and Pathways to Work, and interfacing with our Community Vulnerability Compass.  In 2026, the Fellow will be expected to assist with the planning and preparation for the 2027 legislative session, supporting projects related to workforce development, food access, early childhood education, financial well-being, and data capacity building.  Fellows will attend weekly meetings led by United Way staff. Informal discussions about careers in the nonprofit sector will be scheduled throughout the duration of their Fellowship. QualificationsREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ATTRIBUTES Desire to learn about all aspects of the nonprofit sector Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to infuse creativity, innovation and insight into proposal development. A strong commitment to community service and the nonprofit sector. A high degree of personal initiative with the desire and ability to meet aggressive goals. Ability to work independently, to prioritize and execute multiple projects and meet strict deadlines for deliverables. Superior organizational skills with high attention to detail. RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct thorough research, gather data from the Community Vulnerability Compass and other data sources, and use it to create insightful presentations to effectively communicate findings. Manage volunteer engagement events and act as a liaison between the organization and community members, fostering collaboration. Support grant management activities and take part in various operations, actively contributing to project planning and execution. Collaborate with your supervisor to set performance goals aligned with organizational objectives and demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional growth. Regularly assess and evaluate projects, ensuring alignment with team needs and deadlines. Be evaluated on the following values and core competencies unique to United Way: effective stewardship; a commitment to excellence; and a promise to put people first Conclude the Fellowship with a narrative detailing areas of study, accomplishments, and your selected focus. Engage in regular meetings with a United Way Supervisor to discuss and reflect on projects and experiences, gaining insights into the nonprofit industry. Complete assigned projects and be open to identifying and undertaking additional projects contributing to the organization's mission and goals.
