Drafter Intern - IL

JOB DIMENSIONS:

Job Summary:

Under moderate supervision, perform basic drafting and support drafting design work using 2-D CAD drafting software (“CAD”); and perform related duties as assigned.

Reports to:

            Engineering Manager

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work from engineering change orders and specifications;
  • Answer basic questions regarding drafting requirements;
  • Draft and revise assembly and parts drawings and hydraulic schematics using CAD;
  • Assure that documentation requirements have been specified on the program directive and work orders;
  • Verify applicable sketches, layouts, dimensional calculations, catalogs and design memoranda; and
  • Verify completeness of drawings and assure conformance to the standard drafting procedures of applicable specifications and that all documents called out on drawings are released and are currently in effect;
  • Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and
  • Fully comply with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

            Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:

Experience/Training/Education:

            High school diploma; minimum two years design/drafting experience using CAD, technical training or certification in mechanical design and drafting, or basic understanding of utilizing CAD to generate manufacturing drawings or schematics; some experience  with CAD is required; experience with solid modeling and/or SolidWorks CAD, or equivalent, is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to organize and lay out work generated on computer;
  • Ability to prepare accurate and detailed drafting and engineering drawings;
  • Basic knowledge of drafting\engineering drawings using CAD;
  • Basic database management knowledge of drafting methods and techniques;
  • Familiarity with, or willingness and ability to learn, “ANSI Y14.5M” standard for geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T);
  • Ability to perform basic math computa­tions;
  • Ability to read and interpret production blueprint specifications, engineering change orders and new engineering data;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others; and
  • Basic knowledge of, or willingness and ability to learn, military drawing practices and specifications.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, filing cabinets, photocopiers and other office equipment, as applicable;
  • Most work tasks are performed indoors where temperature is moderate and controlled by office environment systems;
  • Ability to work (sit and/or stand) at a desk for majority of the work day; walking and/or standing may be required for the remainder of the work day.  Length of time performing these physical requirements may vary from day to day and task to task;
  • Requires grasping, writing, sitting, standing, walking, repetitive motions, pulling, pushing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity;
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 15 lbs.; and
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined;
