Job Description

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment throughout the hospital in accordance with infection control standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. This role plays a critical part in supporting patient care by reducing the risk of infection and ensuring a consistently high standard of cleanliness across all areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning of resident and patient areas, including bedrooms, therapy rooms, and common spaces
  • Clean and sanitize shared areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, lounges, and recreational spaces
  • Collect, sort, and launder linens and personal items following strict hygiene and privacy protocols
  • Replenish supplies including soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer
  • Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and housekeeping essentials as needed
  • Perform daily, discharge, and terminal cleaning in accordance with hospital and infection control standards
  • Follow proper infection control procedures, including isolation room cleaning protocols
  • Safely handle, segregate, and dispose of general waste and regulated materials as required
  • Clean floors using appropriate methods (mopping, vacuuming, buffing, etc.)
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and equipment concerns to the appropriate department
  • Respond promptly to urgent cleaning needs, including spills and biohazard situations
  • Collaborate with clinical and support staff to maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for residents and patients
  • Engage professionally and respectfully with residents, accommodating reasonable cleaning preferences when appropriate

Qualifications

  • Prior housekeeping or environmental services experience preferred
  • Healthcare experience a must
  • Understanding of infection control practices and safety standards
  • Ability to follow instructions, policies, and procedures with attention to detail
  • Strong time management and reliability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods

Work Environment

  • Healthcare hospital setting
  • May require exposure to cleaning chemicals and biohazard materials with proper PPE provided
  • Must be able to respond to urgent cleaning needs as required

FT, Part-Time and PRN available.
