Waiter, Catering

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a Waiter to serve food and beverages to event attendees in a gracious and efficient manner. Reporting to the Senior Catering Manager, this position will also be responsible for day-to-day maintenance and event prep.

Pay Rate: $28 per hour

Responsibilities:

• Support the Catering team which provides serving staff for events at the Skirball
• Stock and record food and beverage items
• Maintain stocks of coffee supplies in all staff break rooms on a weekly basis
• Put away delivered orders, especially liquor, and maintain organization of various storage areas
• Maintain equipment such as silverware, chafers, linens, carts, and assures that they are always ready for service; report any damage or loss to management immediately
• Lead bi-yearly inventory of all equipment to analyze losses and plan new orders
• Work alongside on-call staff during larger events, occasionally in a supervisory role
• Print Event Orders on Ungerboeck or signage in the occasion that a catering manager is not available, including food signage and any special sign request

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:

• Must have a current California Food Handler’s Certificate and RBS Certification
• Be of legal age to serve alcohol in California
• Willingness to assist where needed, accept and support change, and adapt to different work styles when interacting with team members and visitors
• Strong attention to detail, paying close attention to the needs of attendees and looking for ways to be of service
• Well-groomed, with hair cut or secured above the collar, clean clothes, etc.
• Ability to provide personable and professional customer service; to work on a team and interact respectfully with colleagues; to accomplish routine housekeeping, cleaning, and scullery tasks; to speak, read, and write in English
• Preferred: prior experience working as a waiter

Physical and environmental demands of the job: The environment for this position is mostly clean and comfortable but may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc.

• Prolonged period of standing, walking, bending, reaching, repetitive motions, and performing light to heavy physical labor
• Must be able to lift up 40lbs independently and more with assistance
• Must be personable and able to interact effectively with clients to ensure guest satisfaction and speedy resolution of any concerns or problems
