Job Summary

Optimum News12 is a cutting-edge communications, media, and technology company connecting audiences to what matters most. Through innovative storytelling and multi-platform distribution, News12 Originals delivers award-winning content across seven local channels and its regional OTT platform, News12NY. News12 is seeking a motivated and creative college intern to support the News12 Originals and Special Projects team. This is a hands-on opportunity for a student interested in long-form storytelling, documentary-style production, and cross-platform content creation. The intern will work closely with the Senior Network Executive Producer and production team, gaining exposure to the full lifecycle of original programming—from concept development through production and post-production

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and research of original programming, including series such as Crime Files, Revealed, and other long-form projects.
• Support pre-production planning, including script organization, story research, and shoot preparation.
• Help coordinate production logistics such as scheduling, call sheets, and field production needs.
• Assist producers, camera crews, and editors during shoots and post-production.
• Log footage, organize media assets, and support editing workflows.
• Conduct background research, fact-checking, and archival sourcing to support storytelling.
• Attend production meetings and contribute creative ideas for storytelling and digital extensions.
• Help track project progress and maintain organization of project materials.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a college or university (preferably studying journalism, communications, film, media production, or a related field)
• Strong interest in documentary-style storytelling and news production
• Basic understanding of video production and editing (Adobe Premiere or similar is a plus)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and research skills
• A proactive attitude and willingness to learn

Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is $20.00 / hour. The rate/range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
