Job Description

Summary of Essential Functions

  • An individual who acts as a focus of communication at the nurse’s station by performing receptionist, clerical and other assigned support activities.

Educational Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Certification/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Communication/hospitality skills, proper judgment skills, confidentiality.
  • Awareness of safety and quality issues, orders supplies.
  • Knowledge of policy related to physician orders, and adherence to policies/procedures.
  • Computer skills; copiers, nurse call system, telephones and or other equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours.
  • Some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Courteous to patients, families, physicians, and hospital personnel, answers intercom in a timely manner and disseminates information to appropriate staff member for appropriate follow-through.
  • Relays pertinent information to appropriate nursing personnel, demonstrates unit specific awareness of adherence to safety and legal requirements and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Assembles, maintains, and reviews medical records according to hospital policy.
  • Orders/records supplies in a timely manner and disperses supplies to appropriate area.
  • Transcribes physician’s orders.
  • Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
