Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Residency Program Director (RPD) is responsible for active learning and participation in assigned duties of the Post graduate year 1 Pharmacy Residency Program (PGY1). Manage and improve the Medication use process. Provide evidence based, patient centered Medication Therapy Management with multidisciplinary teams. Exercise leadership and practice management skills. Demonstrate Project management skills. Provide medication and practice related education/training. Utilize medical informatics. Provides distributive and Clinical Pharmacy functions when providing service component as a Clinical Staff Pharmacist. Develops supervisory and leadership skills. Recruits new Residents and promotes program at regional, state and national venues. Precepts and evaluates Pharmacy Interns, Students or Technician Students in their respective roles. Provides desire and aptitude for teaching clinical problem solving via 4 roles -instructing, modeling, coaching, facilitating. Remains actively engaged in clinical practice and demonstrates commitment to life long learning. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. The Resident will be a KY licensed pharmacist.
  2. The Resident will complete assignments designed to enhance their learning experience and meet required PGY1 educational outcomes:
    1. Manage and improve the Medication use process.
    2. Provide evidence based, patient centered medication therapy management with multidisciplinary teams.
    3. Exercise leadership and practice management skills.
    4. Demonstrate Project management skills.
    5. Provide medication and practice related education/training.
    6. Utilize medical informatics.
  3. The Resident will participate in evaluation of their performance, the performance of their Preceptors as well as the overall Residency Program.
  4. The Resident will participate in the Pharmacy department’s ongoing process for tracking and trending medication events (adverse drug events, medication occurrences and sentinel events).
  5. The Resident will participate in assigned committee, teams or projects to promote their learning experience.
  6. The Resident will participate in policy or protocol development.
  7. The Resident will be an active member in local, state or national professional organizations.
  8. The Resident will participate in preparation of the Pharmacy Department and the Organization for regulatory surveys.
  9. The Resident will demonstrate professional communication skills.
  10. The Resident will be actively engaged in clinical practice at the institution (EMRMC). Performs assigned clinical, distributive and supervisory or administrative functions as assigned during the Residency year. Adheres to best practice and EMH policy and procedures. The Resident will demonstrate clinical competency for assigned learning experiences.
  11. Resident will participate in Resident recruitment, interviews and application process.
  12. Resident will demonstrate a desire and aptitude for teaching that includes mastery of the four (4) Preceptor roles fulfilled when teaching clinical problem solving (instructing, modeling, coaching, and facilitating). Resident must demonstrate abilities to provide criteria-based feedback and evaluation of their own performance and that of those they are teaching. Resident must continue to pursue and develop their teaching skills.
  13. Resident will complete and present project (poster, publication or other professional presentation venue).
  14. Contributes to the effective operations of the Organization by demonstrating dependability in job performance.
  15. Contributes to the achievement of the mission and philosophy of the Organization.
  16. Provides continuing education programs to Associates and clinicians via local, state or national presentations.
  17. Demonstrates a commitment to incorporating the core concepts of patient family centered care into practice (dignity, respect, information sharing, and participation).
  18. Demonstrates a commitment to the development and implementation of shared governance across the Organization.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The Resident will be a KY Licensed Pharmacist (or eligible for KY Licensure within 60 days from Residency year). Must be a graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with sufficient educational training to practice in a hospital Pharmacy.
