Job Description

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time, Temporary (one year, may be continued pending budget availability.)

HOURS: 20 - 29 hours per week

PAY RATE: $26 - $28 per hour, depending on experience; non-benefits eligible

LOCATION: Hybrid, at minimum 4 hours per week on site to report at Community Development Dept, 2010 Howell St, North Kansas City, MO

Typical Duties: The Planning Intern will gain knowledge of planning functions and develop experience in municipal planning tasks and skills while working exclusively on the HEATSMART project. Details of duties include all described in the Attached Statement of Work. 

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Current or recently graduated student in an urban planning, public administration, urban affairs, or related degree program. Preference given to graduate students or advanced undergraduate students with related experience.
  • Experience with ArcGIS (Online and Pro preferred) and Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage varying project deadlines.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an office environment; may be required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, talk and hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel; may be required to lift/move up to 25 pounds (such as a box of paper).

OTHER: Post-offer drug test and background check required.
