Unit: OPAP

Grade: III

35 hours/week, 12 months/year

Position Summary:

SUNY Ulster County Community College, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for a Junior Accounting Specialist. 

The Junior Accounting Specialist reports directly to the Director of Accounting and is responsible for processing and maintaining financial information relating to the activities of the College and Association, including bank reconciliations, posting journal entries, reconciling the general ledger, performing daily close, accounts payables, accounts receivables, asset inventory control and depreciation, finance training and other duties as required.




 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the daily financial transactions of the College and Association including accounts payable, accounts receivable and the daily close process.
  • Posts journal entries and reconciles general ledger accounts.
  • Responsible for monthly bank reconciliations for all College bank accounts.
  • Processes purchase requisitions, creates purchase orders and distributes purchase orders to vendors and campus departments.
  • Maintain vendor records and assists with issuing annual 1099NEC forms.
  • Assists with preparing and delivering training to colleagues on various Accounting forms and processes.
  • Assist with the preparation for annual independent audits of the College and Association.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate records to document final accounting for all books of account, including the general ledger, cash receipts, and cash disbursements. Such record keeping methods will comply with record retention requirements.



 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree.
  • Accounting and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Docs/ Sheets.
  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business or related field; 
  • Prior experience in an educational or governmental institution; 
  • Experience with Banner software.

Salary: 

An initial starting salary of $48,000 with an excellent benefits package. This position is contingent upon adequate funding.
