Job Description

Join Our Team as a Part-Time Patient Care Technician!

Are you passionate about making a difference in patients' lives? We are looking for a dedicated Full-Time Patient Care Technician to join our dynamic 7C Medical / Surgical Unit.

                                                       Scheduling requirements include availability for rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.

The position offers opportunities for growth, with a clear career ladder from Nursing Assistant to Patient Care Technician - Lead. A starting pay rate of $19.40/hour for Nursing Assistants is offered, based on experience and qualifications.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assist with activities of daily living, basic patient care, point-of-care testing, vital signs, telemetry monitoring, specimen collection. The role may also involve advanced skills like phlebotomy, IV removal, and EKGs, depending on department needs.



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must also have at least one of the below:
    • One year of general healthcare experience
    • 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion
    • Enrollment in a nursing program with completion of at least 1 clinical rotation required
    • Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field
  • Nursing Students or those with EMT experience preferred

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Clearances with renewal:
    • Act 31, 33, 34, 73
