Job Description

SUMMARY:

At Alabama Goodwill Industries, our Mission is to help change lives through the power of work. We serve our community by providing employment development services and placement assistance for employment. Our programs are supported with profits generated through the sale of donated goods in our Retail Stores.

Under the direct Supervision of the Warehouse/Outlet Team Leader Coach, is responsible for assisting in processing of post retail goods and keeping equipment emptied for transportation flow. Also, is responsible for providing world-class customer service, maintaining work area safe with cleanliness and orderliness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

  • Operates baler in a safe manner in accordance with organizational and safety policies and procedures. 
  • Bales salvageable merchandise, identify and demonstrate understanding of items that can be baled together or items that cannot be baled but should be process separately.
  • Processes salvage and donations efficiently based on company needs and adapts to changes in commodities processing as assigned. 
  • When applicable and as assigned, maintains accurate bale count with production equivalent to 8-10 bales per 8-hour shift, averaging over 1 bale per hour. In instances where baler is supported by elevator lift production count must average 2 and over per hour.
  • Assist in efficient movement of goods in the warehouse to and from storage or production areas, and in the loading and unloading of trucks with general merchandise, salvage and donated goods with the aid of material handling equipment as needed. 
  • Maintains dock area and assigned vehicle in a neat, clean and organized condition at all times. 
  • Ensures that the loading and unloading of vehicles is performed utilizing sound safety practices (i.e. lifting, use of proper equipment, etc.) and that accidents are reported in a timely manner to the immediate supervisor. 
  • Use of safe work procedures and personal protective equipment as required. (i.e. lifting, use of proper equipment, etc.). Reports hazards, incidents and injuries in a timely manner to the immediate supervisor.
  • Ensures that all items are processed accurately and that all saleable merchandise always makes it to the sales floor. 
  • Assists with influx of donations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience preferred.
  • Safety certifications preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments required.
  • Will be working alongside a diverse population.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with team leader, team members, customers, and clients. 
  • Ability to maintain a positive, friendly attitude and a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance. 
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Skill of operation monitoring, watching indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Ability to work under general supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects as required by job.
  • Able to sit, stand, bend and reach. 
  • Able to lift, push, pull up to sixty (60) pounds with no support regularly. Over sixty (60) pounds request for additional team member assistance as needed.
  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer), and adequate distance to guide the parking of vehicles.
