Job Description

Job Title: Patient Care Technician (Medical Assistant)                                   Department: Clinical

Reports To: Clinical Manager                                                          Status: Full Time/Non-Exempt

Summary: 

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for helping patients by providing clinical and business office assistance within the access center. They will act as clinical support for the LPNs, RNs, NPs, and Physicians.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the pre/post op area; providing examination gowns; helping them to change and position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies and equipment.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; taking and documenting vital signs; notifying RN and/or MD of abnormal findings; confirming purpose of visit.
  • Knowledge and demonstration of sterile technique for procedures. Prepares patient for radiological procedures as evidenced by proper positioning of patient, adjusting immobilization devices, and performing surgical scrub.
  • Assists physician with radiological procedures while maintaining sterility, as needed.
  • Assists nurses with ensuring that patient achieves and maintains hemostasis after completion of procedure and removal of sheath(s).
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock and keeping track of utilized supplies within inventory system
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program
  • Previous medical assistant experience preferred, previous vascular MA experience a plus
  • BLS for the healthcare provider
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job. These include, but are not limited to, sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time, lifting, pulling, moving patients/objects >50 pounds, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritizes effectively, and works as part of a team.
