Job Description

Organizational Overview

For over 30 years, Upward Bound House (UBH) has stood as a leading service provider and advocate dedicated to ending the cycle of family homelessness. We believe true solutions go far beyond just providing a temporary roof. Our team delivers a compassionate continuum of care, walking alongside families every step of the way as they transition from immediate crisis housing into stable, permanent homes. We operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment built on empathy, efficiency, and mutual support, where every team member is united by a shared drive to create lasting community change.

We are currently seeking a Resident Site Monitor to be the heartbeat of our facility. In this role, you will help create a safe, supportive, and dignified environment where families can stabilize and thrive. If you are passionate about serving others, down-to-earth, and ready to make a real difference, you will fit right in.

What You Will Do (Essential Responsibilities)

  • Foster a Safe Community: Monitor the site, manage entry/exit logs, and ensure only authorized individuals access the facility. Conduct regular safety walk-throughs.
  • Support Daily Living: Assist residents with community living guidelines, monitor curfews, and help maintain a clean, organized, and home-like environment (including light cleaning and tidying shared spaces).
  • Be a Grounded Presence: Respond to resident needs and crisis situations with calm professionalism. Utilize conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques when challenges arise.
  • Communicate & Collaborate: Maintain accurate daily logs and incident reports. Participate in smooth shift handovers to ensure team alignment.
  • Deliver Compassionate Care: Treat all residents with the utmost respect, cultural sensitivity, and dignity.

What We Are Looking For (Qualifications)

  • High school diploma or GED (some college is a plus!).
  • Experience working in a residential, shelter, community living, or social services environment is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to remain calm in fast-paced or challenging situations.
  • Comfortable assisting with light cleaning and facility organization.
  • Basic computer literacy for digital logging and shift reports.
  • A valid California driver’s license and reliable, insured auto transportation.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Our team works directly on the frontlines of crisis intervention. Candidates should be comfortable walking, climbing stairs, standing for extended periods, and navigating a dynamic environment.

Because we serve families experiencing acute crises, you may encounter individuals dealing with illness, substance use challenges, or high-stress trauma. A successful candidate will possess strong boundaries, emotional resilience, and a commitment to safety and de-escalation.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Upward Bound House

The mission of Upward Bound House (UBH) is to eliminate homelessness among families with children in Los Angeles by providing housing, supportive services, and advocacy. We strive to reduce the number of homeless families with minor children who are hungry and living on the streets of Los Angeles by helping them access essential resources and successfully transition into their own homes with the capacity to remain there permanently.
