Interviews, registers, performs data entry and various clerical functions to record and maintain patient access information required for treatment, services and/or admission. Updates patient information to reflect demographic, financial status changes, patient transfers and current bed assignment. Ensures that all demographic, financial, and other required information is secured and verified in accordance with established polices and procedures.
What you will do
Conducts personal interviews of incoming patients or representatives to record information required for treatment and/or admission.
Secures all demographic, financial, and other required information, and appropriate signatures to complete the registration process in an accurate, prompt and courteous manner. * Verifies and ensures that patient/insurance information is complete. * Obtains signatures on all required forms (i.e. advance directives, general condition of admission, HIPAA, and Medicare patient rights). * Identifies and completes Medicare questionnaire during registration process. * Identifies primary & secondary insurance coverage. * Reviews demographic information utilizing approved verification systems. * Scans admission forms, picture ID, and insurance cards.
Collects cash deposits or fees and processes cash transactions in accordance with admitting policies and procedures.
Logs all shock, trauma and burn patients manually. Records registrations, admissions, and discharges manually when required.
Logs medical records when received and disassembles as necessary.
Prepares, files and maintains required records, forms, logs, registration roster, and other documents for administrative and compliance purposes.
Reviews physician orders upon admission and assigns appropriate level of care to ensure patient receives accurate bed assignment.
Utilizes computer and related equipment to update and revise patient information to reflect demographic, financial status changes, newborn admissions, patient transfers, and bed assignment changes.
Provides notification to applicable insurance companies on daily basis with subscriber admissions and documents notifications as required.
Communicates and responds to inquiries according to established policies for release of information. Answers inquiries from nursing, medical and/or other staff members regarding admission and patient’s location. Interacts and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction.
Maintains confidentiality of patient, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies in processing and releasing patient information (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent work experience Required
Selected applicant must successfully complete medical terminology within 90 Days Required
Minimum 1 year experience clerical or related experience, preferably in healthcare setting, utilizing computerized equipment for data entry purposes. Required and

Completion of clerical program, customer service or equivalent education maybe utilized in lieu of experience. Required
