Job Description

Position Available: Custodian

As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining our health and safety standards, by cleaning and maintaining the building and grounds. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Performs interior and exterior center janitorial, building maintenance, and groundkeeping assignments. 
  • Performs minor building construction tasks.
  • Ensures all equipment and facilities are cleaned and maintained per the center, OSHA, and DOL standards.
  • Stocks supply room with appropriate supplies.
  • Perform general care of plants, trees, and flowers, maintain grounds, and pick up debris.
  • Replaces light bulbs, dust and sanitizer furniture, empty trash receptacles, sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors, buffs floors, and shampoos carpets. 
  • Shovels and removes snow and ice from designated areas such as sidewalks, entryways, and roofs as required. Salts ice on the exterior grounds of the facility. 
  • Moves furniture, equipment, or fixtures as required.
  • Set up rooms for meetings, classes, or events.  
  • Ability to work with students, guide and direct them as they shadow and work with you doing your daily tasks

Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, products, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Skilled in the proper use of cleaning products and equipment
  • Capable of following verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets, labels, and chemicals
  • Proficient in using computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, etc. 
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Educational Requirements & Experiences:

  • High School Diploma, or Equivalent 
  • One year of custodial experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. 
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record

  • Kneeling, bending at the waist, stooping, and reaching overhead
  • Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and, or lifting light objects.

  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, cleaning products, temperature variance, and equipment with moving parts. 
  • Possible confrontation with students
