Summer Internships Program 2026


Mission:

Woodwell Climate Research Center (Woodwell Climate) conducts science for solutions at the nexus of climate, people, and nature. We partner with leaders and communities for just meaningful impact to address the climate crisis.

Summary:

Join Woodwell’s 2026 Internship Program as a Climate Finance Intern supporting our Risk Analysis team. You’ll explore how physical and transition climate risks impact corporate profitability, sector performance, and national GDP trajectories. Through curated reading materials and hands-on projects, you’ll gain real-world experience at the intersection of climate science and financial analysis.


Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Climate Risk Modeling: Analyze firm-level and sector-level financial data alongside climate scenarios to quantify risk exposure and profitability impacts.

  • Economic Trend Analysis: Use macroeconomic datasets to assess how varying climate outcomes may alter GDP growth patterns for nation states.

  • Data Management & Documentation: Organize large financial and climate datasets; maintain clear metadata and version control.

  • Python Development: Develop data-processing pipelines, statistical models, and visualization scripts in Python.

  • Research Collaboration: Contribute to ongoing risk-analysis research projects, preparing briefs and slide decks for internal review.

  • Professional Engagement: Attend team meetings, present findings, and network with mentors, senior analysts, and fellow interns.


Must Have the Following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Python Proficiency: Comfortable writing scripts for data manipulation (pandas, NumPy) and visualization (matplotlib, seaborn, or similar).

  • Quantitative Aptitude: Coursework or experience in econometrics, statistics, or financial modeling.

  • Data Tools: Familiarity with Excel (or equivalent) for data analysis; basic use of version control (e.g., Git) is a plus.

  • Communication: Strong writing and presentation skills for summarizing technical analyses to diverse audiences.


Qualifications:

  • Academic Standing: Currently enrolled as a junior in an undergraduate program (e.g., Finance, Economics, Environmental Science, Data Science, or related).


Work Environment: 

The functions of this role are conducted in an indoor environment.

Desired Start Date: Monday, June 8, 2026 through August 14, 2026


Classification and Compensation: This is a full-time, temporary, hourly, non-exempt position, with an hourly salary (based on Massachusetts minimum wage or equivalent state where the employee is located). Internship will not exceed more than 90 days.
