Internship Title: 

STEAM Forward Youth Intern

Internship Description/Learning Objectives:

The STEAM Forward Youth Internship provides young people ages 16–19 with a structured, paid work experience that combines arts-integrated STEAM learning with workforce readiness training. Interns will participate in hands-on projects, collaborate in teams, and gain exposure to real-world workplace expectations. The internship emphasizes professional communication, time management, problem-solving, and career exploration while allowing interns to build portfolios, resumes, and confidence for future employment or education.

Job Duties:

Participate in daily structured work activities and STEAM-based projects

Collaborate with peers to plan, execute, and complete assigned tasks.

 Practice professional communication, punctuality, and workplace behavior

 Use basic technology tools for research, documentation, and presentations

 Assist with setup, organization, and cleanup of project materials

Prepare short presentations or demonstrations of completed work

 Complete reflections and evaluations related to learning and job skills

General Information:

Work Schedule Days and Hours:

Monday–Thursday 10am to 4:30pm 

Dress Code:

Business Casual / Program Appropriate Attire, including:

• Slacks, khakis, or capris
• Polo shirts or plain collared shirts
• Jeans with no holes or rips
• Closed-toe shoes (sneakers or flats preferred)
• Clothing must be clean, appropriate, and allow for movement during activities

Travel Required:

Limited local field trips may occur to support learning objectives, such as visiting community arts, STEAM, or workforce-related sites. Any field trips will be supervised by program staff, communicated in advance to participants and families, and conducted in accordance with all youth safety and transportation guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand, and participate in group activities

Working Conditions: (example: Office Warehouse, Outdoors, with Children or Animals, etc.)

Indoor classroom and learning environment

The full program is June 1st – July 17th   

June 1st – June 3rd:   Interns attend work readiness skills training from 8am                                     – 12pm.

June 4th:                      Attend employer orientation meeting.

June 5th:                      POWER Youth Summit at Sheraton Music City                                                Nashville Airport

June 8th – July 17th:   Youth will report to their employer worksite                                                    location on Monday – 

                                       Thursday or special schedule workday at the time 

                                        scheduled by employer.  You will be scheduled to                                           work 6.5 hours daily

                                      which equals 24 hours per week.

Friday Co-Horts:            Youth report to cohort sessions at assigned                                                    locations at 8:00am to 

                                       12:00noon on Fridays.

July 17th:                     POWER Youth Summer Employment Program.             

If you are selected as a High School Intern, you will make $15.00 an hour and receive pre-program training and coaching to ensure you have the skills you need on the job. Interns are responsible for providing their own transportation to all orientation, training, worksite, and cohort times. Please consider your transportation needs prior to applying for the High School Internship program. There are opportunities to intern in many areas of Nashville, so please select the opportunity based on your access to transportation.

The POWER Youth program, previously known as Opportunity NOW, provides career exploration and work experience activities for youth 14 to 24 years old. The name POWER Youth was selected by the peer youth leadership team based on how they view themselves and their future.
