Job Description

Position Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Fleet Manager

Department: Firewood, Equipment Rental & Shop Operations

Primary Responsibilities

Firewood Operations

  • Load, haul, and deliver firewood orders to residential and commercial customers in a safe and timely manner
  • Assist with firewood processing, splitting, and inventory management at the yard
  • Ensure accurate order fulfillment and quality control before each delivery
  • Stack and stage firewood at customer locations as requested

Equipment Rental

  • Coordinate equipment pick-ups and drop-offs
  • Inspect, clean, and prepare rental equipment before and after each use
  • Set up and demonstrate equipment safely for customers at pickup or delivery locations
  • Conduct basic pre- and post-rental inspections and document any damage or maintenance needs

Shop Support & Small Engine Maintenance (as needed)

  • Serve as additional manpower for house shop runs and miscellaneous errands when firewood and rental activity is light
  • Assist shop staff with parts pickups, supply runs, and material transport
  • Support day-to-day shop operations as directed by the Fleet Manager

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to operate trucks and trailers
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Medical DOT card prior to start date
  • Clean driving record. No minor violations in the past 3 years ( any accidents and minor speeding) and no major violations in the past 5 years.
  • This position requires a background check as a condition of employment
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly and perform physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Basic mechanical aptitude — comfortable with small engine maintenance and minor repairs
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a single workday
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently without constant supervision
  • Strong communication skills for customer-facing interactions during deliveries and rentals

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in equipment rental, landscaping, logging, or a related trade
  • Experience with small engine repair (chainsaws, generators, log splitters, etc.)
  • experience hauling equipment with a trailer
  • Familiarity with rental tracking, customer service, or dispatch workflows

What to Expect Day-to-Day

This role is not a desk job. You will be on your feet, behind the wheel, and occasionally under a piece of equipment. Mornings may start with loading firewood or prepping rental units for the day's pickups. Midday could bring deliveries or a parts run for the shop. Afternoons might have you performing a tune-up on a small engine or returning rental equipment and logging it back in. The expectation is that you manage your time effectively, communicate clearly with your Fleet Manager, and make sure everything on your plate gets done — done right, and done on time.
