Job Description

Rivers Health is seeking a full-time PTA - Physical Therapy Assistant.

JOB SUMMARY:

Administering treatments set up by Licensed Physical Therapist, documentation of patient’s status and progress and ongoing monitoring and reporting to the therapist any change in patient’s status.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.

The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

  1. Review the patient's evaluation with the referring therapist and provide patient care utilizing physical modalities and therapeutic exercise based on programs set up by licensed Physical therapist.
  2. Deliver physical agents, therapeutic exercise, gait training, and other modalities of care in accordance with the policies of the department following the plan of care determined by the Physical Therapist.
  3. Collect and document patient's status, response to treatment, and progress to treatment in accordance with departmental policy. A Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for having appropriate notes co-signed by a Physical therapist.
  4. Monitor and report any untoward responses to treatment, significant change, or discharge is approaching to Physical Therapist.
  5. Supervise physical therapy assistant students under the direction of the clinical coordinator of education.
  6. Supervise Rehab Tech in the preparation of patients and equipment.
  7. Work under the direction of up to three physical therapists.
  8. Supervise volunteer in the department.
  9. Maintain and upgrade treatment skills. Participate in staff meetings and in-services.
  10. Provide accurate documentation of patient progress using SOAP format.
  11. Have appropriate notes co-signed by a physical therapist as directed by the State of West Virginia.
  12. Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.
  13. Foster an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
  14. Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on quality improvement teams.
  15. Maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
  16. Performs other related or similar duties as may be periodically assigned. Interact with other team members of the professional staff to provide total care of patients.
  17. Aware of and adhere to departmental policies and procedures, as well as hospital policies and procedures.
  18. Responsible for identifying and addressing the needs of patients of all ages including pediatrics, adolescents, and geriatrics.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:

Successful completion of a two-year Physical Therapy Assistant Program from an accredited institution.  Current West Virginia Physical Therapy Assistant License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Medium Work.  Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds or more.
