Job Description
The Pharmacist provides quality pharmaceutical care by evaluating patients’ drug therapy, recommending appropriate drug therapy and serving as an educational resource to patients and other health care professionals. The Pharmacist also utilizes a computer system to enter orders dispense medications and intravenous solutions to patients’ in an accurate and timely manner and supervises technical employees. The Pharmacist checks all technical work before doses are dispensed.
QualificationsEducation: BS or PharmD from a School of Pharmacy.
Experience: Health system experience preferred but not required.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Current licensure in the State of Alabama, controlled substances permit, parenteral license, preceptor license (when eligible), BCLS provider (ACLS preferred).
Equipment/Tools/Work Aids: Computer Reference Books Calculators, Telephone, Vertical and Horizontal Laminar, Flow IV Hoods, Medication Carts, UD Packaging, Machine Automated Dispensing Equipment TPN Compounder and Tier Balance.
Specialized Skills: Effective communication skills, competence in mathematical calculations, knowledge and skills necessary to provide care that is appropriate to the various ages of the patient population.
Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of a computer keyboard). May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions. Stooping or kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove/replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers). Sitting, walking, or standing for a long period of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary. Normal range of hearing and vision to perform work and communicate effectively. Must be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job.
