POSITION – Union: Shop Apprentice

NUMBER OF OPEN POSITIONS: 1

LOCATION: ME - Augusta - North Augusta Service Ctr

Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair, and test all types of electrical and/or mechanical apparatus, including re-closers, transformers, regulators, control equipment, relays, line and protective relaying, and other substation and distribution equipment.
  • Works under supervision on or in an adjacent to in energized equipment in accordance with safety standards.
  • Obtains a general knowledge of substation and distribution equipment and works with the tools, equipment, and instruments of the trade.
  • Learns to prepare such records as may be necessary and becomes familiar with NASC equipment, switching procedures, and operation of substation equipment.
  • Must be able to work from elevated structures.
  • Must feel comfortable working within allowable working clearances of energized equipment.
  • Can perform duties without immediate supervision.
  • Perform switching and operating duties unassisted.
  • Read and interpret prints, sketches, and electrical diagrams associated with NASC and substation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot controls and alarms on NASC, substation, and distribution equipment.
  • Perform all related NASC facility repairs and related environmental requirements.
  • Perform all related duties pertaining to NASC Hazardous Waste License.
  • Clean up oil spills with related record keeping.
  • Become familiar with the company's operating standards, policies, safety instructions, regulations, and directives pertaining to the assignments.
  • Must be able to perform on-call duties for the purpose of oil spill response and clean-up.
  • Assist in the practical training of other employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Must have a 2-year associate's degree in the electrical/electronic field.
  • Must hold a valid Maine driver's license and be able to qualify and hold any other permits or licenses required.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a Class B license with N endorsement.
  • Must keep current with technology changes and prepare for progression exams.
  • Must work in a manner that does not jeopardize the safety of themselves or others.
  • Must reside within an acceptable distance (45 minutes) of their regular reporting location or be willing to relocate within nine months of transfer and be available for emergency assignments.
  • Must maintain telephone and provide the company with the number.
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.
