In collaboration with the City of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), and the University Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) the hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP) is a community-focused program that provides trauma-informed intervention and case management services to people injured by community violence. We are seeking a violence prevention professional to assist in engaging with patients during their involvement with the HVIP and increase connection to and empowerment of individuals impacted by violent injury and broader community violence. The HVIP’s outreach program will focus on victims of gun violence aged 44 years or younger in the three main settings in the continuum of healthcare: (1) in the ED soon after injury, (2) in the hospital during inpatient admission and acute medical care, and (3) after discharge in the outpatient clinic when acute medical issues are resolving and the focus can transition to support of mental, behavioral health issues, PTSD screening, and providing community services.

The HVIP will offer wraparound services to each youth and young adult victim of gun violence inclusive of victims of unintentional, intentional, and self-harm injuries, as well as interpersonal violent injuries who present to either UCMC or CCHMC. The violence prevention professional will be responsible for navigating health and social services with patients, peer engagement and modeling, group facilitation, and other activities. The position requires individuals with lived experiences of violence to engage with individuals in a trauma-informed manner, and to model effective ways of connecting with resources to support healing. The violence prevention professional will be expected to perform a significant amount of community-based work and engage within a diverse range of neighborhoods.
