Position:

Discovery Cube of Los Angeles is seeking an experienced seasonal Custodian to join our Facilities team. This role is responsible for ensuring that the building is well maintained and will provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for both guests and staff. The Facilities team member also supports the ongoing operation and upkeep of the facility and exhibits, helping ensure everything functions properly and efficiently. Full-time and part-time opportunities available. 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain daily cleanliness in all indoor and outdoor Museum spaces such as exhibits floor, restrooms, offices, and public spaces
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of special events
  • Daily cleaning tasks will include sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning windows, mirrors, and handrails
  • Monitor and clean restrooms throughout each day, ensuring they are well-stocked with all necessary supplies
  • Emptying trashcans throughout the facility, both indoors and outdoors on a regular basis
  • Inventory management and replenishment of cleaning supplies
  • Perform routine floor maintenance, promptly address all floor-related incidents, and all emergency clean-up
  • Work closely with Exhibits team to clean and maintain exhibit spaces
  • Maintain a high level of safety standards
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred (or equivalent work experience)
  • Ability to perform physical duties including lifting, bending, standing, walking and pushing/pulling equipment for extended periods
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, supplies, and equipment (training provided)
  • Ability to work independently or part of a team
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to learn proper use of cleaning chemicals and safety procedure
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Strong attention to detail, and pride in maintaining clean, safe and welcoming spaces

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in facilities, maintenance, custodial, or building operations, preferably in a museum, nonprofit, education or cultural institution
  • Knowledge of basic building systems (HVAC, lighting, plumbing, minor repairs)
  • Awareness of safety procedures and OSHA standards
  • Ability to safely operate carpet extractors and related cleaning tools
  • Basic experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • Ability to use computers for facility management systems, email, and reporting

Compensation

Compensation$18.25—$18.25 USD
