Job Description

CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT needed Nephrology and primary care practice in Myrtle Beach. Must have excellent computer and customer service skills.  Hours are Monday through Thursday 7:45 am - 5:15 pm and Fridays 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.  No nights or weekends!  Excellent pay and benefits including paid holidays, PTO and sick time, medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, company paid life insurance, employee assistance program, pre-paid legal, identity theft, and 401k offered.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Employee is responsible for providing professional nursing care to clinic patients under supervision of physicians and Patient/Clinical Services Manager. May be required to travel between offices as needed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Office Manager

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assesses patient's general condition and takes vital signs and weight.
  2. Assists physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  3. Provides basic patient care as ordered.
  4. Documents all activities/interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, etc., in the medical record.
  5. Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
  6. Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines, and confidentiality policies.
  7. Review all patient cases and acknowledge request accordingly. Action note should be updated in case before closing.
  8. Review all cases created for providers at office location.
  9. Patient request for call backs should be handled promptly and in a timely manner.
  10. Maintain inventory at a minimum and place medical supply orders as needed.
  11. Keep patient’s rooms fully stocked and cleaning log up to date.
  12. The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.

KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Knowledge of basic nursing principles and protocols.
  2. Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
  3. Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records.

SKILLS:

  1. Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques.
  2. Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace and confidentiality methods.
  3. Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data.

ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to work effectively as team members with physicians and other staff.
  2. Ability to appropriately interact with patients, families, staff and others.
  3. Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.

REQUIREMENTS: Certification or Nursing license required upon hire, as well as continuance of certification/license during employment.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Combination of office and exam room. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations. Hepatitis B vaccination and TB test required.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  1. Varied activities including sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, reaching. 
  2. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and to lift 100 pounds. 
  3. Occasional stress from workload. 
  4. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including phone, writing instruments, PC, and fax. 
  5. Must be able to use medical equipment including stethoscope, EKG machine, ear washing equipment, speculums, scales, blood pressure cuff.
