Job Description

About Shift Markets

At Shift Markets, we’re reimagining what the future of digital finance looks like. As a fast-growing SaaS company, we provide white-label crypto exchange technology that empowers everyone from bold fintech startups to global enterprises to launch and scale digital asset platforms with confidence.

Our 100-person, fully remote team is spread across time zones and continents, but we’re united by a shared mission: to build the infrastructure that powers tomorrow’s financial world. We move quickly, think big, and embrace innovation at every level — whether that’s through automation, AI, or next-generation technology that makes our platforms smarter, faster, and more scalable.

But what truly sets us apart is our culture. We believe collaboration fuels creativity, diversity drives strength, and curiosity keeps us ahead of the curve. At Shift, you won’t just be part of a company — you’ll be part of a global community shaping the next chapter of finance.

About the Role

Shift Markets is seeking a Financial Operations Intern to join our Finance team in an internship focused on reporting, treasury analysis, and internal tool development.

This is not a traditional administrative internship. The intern will work on clearly defined projects—particularly around treasury reporting and internal reporting frameworks—that the team does not have the capacity to build in day-to-day operations.

The intern will be co-managed by the VP of Finance and Finance Associates, with an emphasis on mentorship, structured check-ins, and independent project work between meetings. This role is ideal for a highly quantitative, self-directed student who enjoys building, analyzing, and improving systems.

Start timing is very flexible and can begin as early as April, with opportunities available for in-semester or summer internships

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Work on treasury and financial reporting projects with a strong emphasis on accuracy, structure, and analytical depth.

  • Build or improve internal tools, models, or processes related to financial operations and reporting.

  • Analyze financial and operational data to support internal decision-making.

  • Develop reporting frameworks that improve visibility into cash balances, treasury activity, and transaction flows.

  • Identify and explore opportunities to automate or streamline reporting and operational workflows.

  • Participate in periodic check-ins with Finance team mentors to review progress and receive guidance.

  • Document methodologies, assumptions, and outputs clearly for internal use.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skill set (this is a hard requirement).

  • Academic background in one of the following (or closely related fields):

  • Mathematics

  • Data Science

  • Financial Engineering

  • Quantitative Economics (with strong quantitative coursework)

  • Currently an undergraduate junior, senior, rising senior, or a Master’s student.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on project-based deliverables.

  • Evidence of being a self-starter (e.g., case studies, hackathons, research projects, team projects, thesis or capstone work).

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfort working in a remote, mentorship-driven environment.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building models, tools, or automations (academic or personal projects).

  • Participation in hackathons, case competitions, research projects, or capstone/thesis work.

  • Exposure to treasury concepts, financial systems, or transaction-level data.

  • Experience using AI tools for analysis, automation, or workflow optimization.

What will you get out of it?

  • Hands-on, real-world experience in financial operations within a fintech environment.

  • Direct mentorship from experienced finance professionals.

  • Opportunity to work on meaningful projects alongside the Finance Operations team.

  • Flexible work structure (approximately 20 hours per week) focused on outcomes, not seat time.

  • Exposure to how modern finance teams use data, automation, and technology to scale.

This is an internship for academic credit and has a flexible start date, open to in-semester or summer participation, and structured around approximately 20 hours per week. The role can be completed fully remote or in a hybrid format with our New York City headquarters.
