Indian River Mosquito Control District Position Description LARVICIDE INSPECTOR - SEASONAL
Department: Operations Position Type: Seasonal (June through November)
Pay Grade: 2
FLSA: Non-exempt
Position Summary: The Indian River Mosquito Control District is seeking a Seasonal Larvicide
Inspector to support mosquito control operations during peak activity months (June through
November). This position performs field inspections, identifies mosquito activity, and applies
appropriate control measures within coastal wetlands, impoundments, and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct field inspections to identify mosquito activity and determine appropriate treatment methods.
• Apply approved mosquito control products in accordance with safety guidelines and regulations.
• Record and report inspection and treatment data utilizing District-assigned equipment.
• Monitor environmental conditions including rainfall, water levels, and tide activity.
• Maintain trails, equipment, and assigned routes in safe working conditions.
• Operate District vehicles, ATVs, and/or watercraft as required for long periods.
• Participate with ULV spraying as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma, or Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED).
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Florida Driver’s License. Must be maintained through employment.
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
Preferred Qualifications
• Possession of a valid Public Health Pest Control license from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
• Experience in mosquito control or environmental field work.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
• Basic understanding of mosquito biology and identification (training provided).
• Ability to collect and record data accurately.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to operate vehicles and equipment in rough terrain and back-up a truck with a trailer.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
This position involves outdoor work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to weather, insects, and rough terrain. Frequent local travel is required.
Additional Information: This is a seasonal position expected to run from June through November. Employment dates may vary based on operational needs.
