Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:   The Nursing Intern must have the skill and knowledge to provide population specific care.  He/She must have the ability to assist with the collection of data for objective assessment, and to identify the needs and requirements of the patient and report to the charge nurse/team leader.  They will act within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse.   The Nursing Intern works under the direct supervision of an assigned RN preceptor who reports directly to the charge nurse/team leader.     QUALIFICATIONS:     1. Education:        a.) High School diploma or equivalent.         b.) Current enrollment in an RN program (ADN, BSN, or Paramedic to RN) and                   within 12 months from graduation.     2. Licensure/Certification:        a.) Current BLS certification.   3. Work Experience:      a.) Official transcript from current nursing program.        b.) Successful completion of hospital orientation.   4.  Paperwork Required:       a.) Official transcript turned in from your current nursing program with cumulative       GPA.  If GPA less than 3.2, a 500 word essay required stating what makes the      applicant an exceptional candidate.        b.) New Hires: Two letters of reference from two of your RN program instructors;           one letter MUST be from a Clinical Instructor.  Current Bothwell Employee           (Transfer):  Two letter of references from your RN program clinical instructor            and current unit manager/director.   c.) Resume   d.) Cover letter including     1.  Name     2.  Address     3.  Phone number     4.  Email     5.  Top 3 choices of clinical areas     6. Paragraph answering the question “Why would you be a great candidate            for Bothwell Regional Health Center’s Internship Program. e.) Copy of High School diploma or equivalent.   f.) Copy of current BLS certification.   g.) Copy of Immunization records.   h.) Proof of personal malpractice insurance.     JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:   1.  Ensure self-compliance with regulatory and government standards of care.   2.  Demonstrate the knowledge and skill to perform direct personal care of the patient.   3.  Hold self accountable and responsible for work performance and continuous      improvement of patient care in his/her work area and throughout hospital.   4.  Organize care and prioritize it by communicating and collaborating with others for       a multidisciplinary approach to provide a continuity of care.   5.  Ensure the satisfactory completion of personal care for patient and family.   6.  Other duties as assigned.       REQUIRED STAFF COMPETENCIES:   1. Possesses a vigorous and enthusiastic desire to learn and to grow both personally        and professionally, and to improve one's skills in order to deliver the best possible        care for our customers.     WORKING CONDITIONS:   1.  Direct patient contact, possible exposure to infections, communicable diseases and       bloodborne pathogens.   2.  Occasionally exposed to radiation and electromechanical hazards.   3.  Work indoors in well-lighted and ventilated environment.   4.  Handles emergency or crisis situations.   5.  Occasionally subjected to irregular hours.   6.  Subjected to frequent interruptions.   7.  Comply with ADA guidelines.
