Position Summary:

The Women’s Health Managed Care Coordinator Float Intern is an entry-level opportunity designed for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in healthcare administration, patient coordination, and managed care operations within a nonprofit community healthcare organization. This role provides practical training and work experience while supporting women’s health services and administrative operations across multiple clinic locations as needed.

The intern will work closely with clinical and administrative staff to learn patient coordination processes, healthcare office procedures, insurance verification support, and professional workplace expectations in a healthcare setting. No prior healthcare experience is required; training will be provided.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist patients with appointment scheduling, registration, and follow-up coordination 
  • Support front office and managed care operations within women’s health clinics 
  • Help verify and update patient demographic and insurance information 
  • Assist with referral coordination and appointment confirmations 
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls in a professional manner 
  • Provide administrative support related to patient care coordination and managed care services 
  • Assist with maintaining accurate patient records and documentation 
  • Support scanning, filing, and electronic document management tasks 
  • Float between clinic locations or departments based on operational needs 
  • Respond professionally to patient questions and requests 
  • Assist patients with navigating available healthcare services and resources 
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines 
  • Participate in training sessions, team meetings, and professional development opportunities 
  • Perform other administrative and patient support duties as assigned

Qualifications

No prior healthcare or office experience is required. Training and mentorship will be provided throughout the internship.

  • High school diploma, GED, or currently enrolled in a high school, college, or vocational program 
  • Interest in healthcare administration, women’s health, managed care, public health, or nonprofit healthcare services 
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn 
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality 
  • Dependable attendance and flexibility to work at different clinic locations as needed 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Physical Demands:

  • May sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to see and hear within normal range with or without correction device(s)
  • Dexterity and hand to eye coordination as normally associated with operating office equipment, computers and telephones
