Job Description

Description

Data & Analytics Internship - Top News Organization, Meaningful Work

Community Impact is a Texas-based local news and advertising company — trusted news and local information that everyone gets. We reach 2 million mailboxes through monthly print editions, daily newsletters, and a fast-growing digital platform. The data team behind it is small, busy, and increasingly central to how the business grows; we're investing in AI-driven analytics, attribution, and client-facing data products, and we're hiring an intern to grow alongside that work.

ABOUT YOU

You don't need every skill below — curiosity about most plus interest in growing into the rest. Class projects, personal projects, and self-taught work all count.

  • A working grasp of basic marketing principles — you read the story behind a number and come back with ideas, not just observations
  • Some exposure to SQL and Python for data work
  • Curiosity about enterprise data warehouses like Snowflake — you don't need it on your résumé, but you want to learn how real production systems work
  • Some experience with dashboards or data visualizations in Tableau or a similar BI tool — we care about reporting principles (clarity, hierarchy, decision-usefulness), not which tool
  • Comfortable using AI agents like Claude or Codex as a system — chaining tasks, evaluating output, treating the model like a teammate. Curiosity counts even if you've barely used them
  • Smart, fast learner, comfortable with ambiguity. Bonus if you ask why a lot

WHY JOIN COMMUNITY IMPACT

This is an analyst-first internship designed as a learning role. You'll spend most of your time turning data into answers — for clients, for sales and marketing teams, and for internal product decisions — and pitch in on the data, AI, and solutions work that comes up day-to-day. AI is part of how we work every day, not a side experiment. We'll meet you where you are on the technical side and help you grow into the rest.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

  • Analyzing client performance data — attribution, campaign outcomes, audience reach
  • Building and maintaining internal dashboards for sales, editorial, and leadership
  • Designing AI-assisted data workflows — prompts, scenarios, output evaluation Ad-hoc investigations and data-quality reviews alongside our platform team

COMPENSATION

Summer interns will work 20-30 hours per week for 10-12 weeks (open to summer-only or summer-through-fall) and will be paid an hourly rate of $20/hour.

SCHEDULES

Community Impact has a target start date of June 2026. This is a hybrid position with three days per week at the Innovation Center in Pflugerville, TX (flexibility around school schedules).

Requirements

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be enrolled in college and working toward their degree or may have graduated within six months of the internship start date.
