Job Description

About Rooted for Change

Rooted for Change is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to expanding access to education, wellness, and economic opportunity through culturally responsive, community-driven programs. We believe access changes everything—and our work is rooted in truth, trust, and community.

Position Summary

Become a Mentor. Change a Life. Help Build Generational Impact.

ROOTED for Change is seeking dedicated, compassionate, and community-centered mentors to support youth and young adults across Central Texas through mentorship, leadership development, academic encouragement, wellness support, and life coaching. At ROOTED, mentorship is not transactional — it is transformational. We believe every young person deserves access to trusted adults who can help them navigate life, build confidence, dream bigger, and feel seen, heard, and supported. Our mentors serve as consistent, positive, and encouraging guides who help participants strengthen not only academic and career readiness, but also identity, emotional wellness, leadership skills, and self-belief.

Key Responsibilities

ROOTED mentors may support youth and young adults through:

  • One-on-one mentorship relationships
  • Academic encouragement and tutoring support
  • Career exploration and workforce readiness conversations
  • College readiness guidance
  • Leadership development and confidence-building
  • Goal setting and accountability support
  • Wellness check-ins and emotional encouragement
  • Group workshops and community programming
  • Exposure opportunities and networking support
  • Life skills coaching (communication, professionalism, financial literacy, etc.)

Mentors may engage virtually, in-person, or through hybrid opportunities depending on programming and participant needs.

Who We’re Looking For:

We are seeking mentors who:

  • Are passionate about serving youth and families
  • Lead with empathy, patience, and authenticity
  • Can commit to consistent engagement and communication
  • Value equity, access, inclusion, and community empowerment
  • Are willing to listen before leading
  • Want to help students and young adults navigate barriers and opportunities
  • Believe relationships and representation matter

We welcome mentors from all professional backgrounds including:

  • Education
  • Healthcare & Wellness
  • Business & Entrepreneurship
  • Technology
  • Skilled Trades
  • Public Service
  • Higher Education
  • Arts & Creative Industries
  • Nonprofit & Community Leadership

Time Commitment

Mentorship opportunities may vary depending on program structure, but generally include:

  • Monthly or biweekly engagement
  • Participation in occasional ROOTED events or workshops
  • Ongoing communication and encouragement
  • Commitment to being a trusted and reliable presence

Why Mentorship Matters:
Many of the youth and families ROOTED serves face systemic barriers to opportunity, access, and support. Mentorship creates connection, belonging, exposure, confidence, and hope. Sometimes one conversation, one trusted adult, or one moment of encouragement changes the trajectory of a life.  At ROOTED, we are building more than mentorship programs — we are building ecosystems of support that help communities thrive for generations. Join us in helping young people become rooted in purpose, wellness, leadership, and opportunity.
