The Risk Control Intern (RCI) position is a tele-commuting field position with Wright Specialty Insurance within the Risk Management Department, specifically assigned to the Wright Specialty Insurance [WSI] program.    

The RCI will have risk management responsibility for developing Risk Management forms; Guidance Documents; Insurance Specifications and Presentations for the WSI website and insureds. Responsibilities may also include observing inspections, risk assessments and evaluations. 

The primary responsibility for this position is assist the WSI Risk Management team in developing support materials for the program and insureds. Risk Management activities may also include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Observing surveys of Insured’s operations to evaluate risks (property, general liability, auto and EPL) and the control measures in place.

  • Observing and participating in seminars.

  • Writing related articles for Risk Management Bulletins and Association Publications.

Job Summary

The RCI will be responsible for the development and delivery of program related forms, insurance specifications and guidance documents to support WSI’s insureds in K-12 and Higher Education spaces.  This position requires a high-quality standard, excellent writing and interpersonal skills. This position will be field based, and the potential candidate will work out of their home office.

Core Job Duties & Responsibilities

The RCI will:

  • Observe on-site surveys to learn risk assessment and evaluation skills. 

  • Develop with moderate oversight, support forms; guidance documents; insurance specifications and presentations to provide insured support and education.

  • Maintain open communications with team members, teammates and others.

  • Assist other internal departments or brokers in accessing the developed documents.

  • Be able to work independently.

  • Perform other activities, duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Education:  Working towards AA/BA/BS degree in Occupational/industrial safety, engineering, fire science, risk management or safety related degrees.

  • Experience: Relevant coursework in the above curriculum with some upper-level coursework completed [300 or  400 level courses].

  • Knowledge: Knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g. OSHA, EPA, DOT) and national codes (e.g. NFPA) and other standards and guidelines developed by Federal and/or State agencies is a plus.

  • Skills/Competencies:  Good organizational, time and technical skills. Good relationship and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with team members, teammates and others. Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to operate a personal computer and other business equipment, prioritize work, and meet deadlines are essential elements.

Pay Range

20.00 - 20.00 Hourly

The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
