Job Description

Serve as the link between the School/Home/Community and assist students in achieving success in school.

Education and/or Experience:

  • A Graduate from high school or a general education degree is required.
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training.

Language Skills:

  • Speak, read, and write the Inupiaq language.
  • Read and interpret procedures, policies, and regulations, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, staff, and the public.

Preference:

  • Inupiaq-speaking and cultural experience preferred.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid Class D Alaska Driver’s License

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Lift 40 pounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate communications among parents, teachers, administrators, students, and supporting agencies to ensure the success of students.
  • Interact positively with students.
  • Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
  • Monitor student attendance and progress and make informed, timely educational decisions.
  • Refer students’ attendance and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.
  • Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
  • Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
  • Support the value of education and the philosophy and mission of the District.
