Job Description

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Office of Advancement & Alumni Relations supports efforts to strengthen relationships between the university and its alumni, donors, and community partners. This role provides hands-on experience in fundraising, communications, database management and administrative operations, while contributing to initiatives that enhance alumni engagement and philanthropic support.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality administrative support for fundraising, alumni engagement, and donor relations efforts.
  • Support the management of digital and print communications to strengthen alumni and donor engagement and advance fundraising initiatives.
  • Maintain data integrity by accurately updating and managing records within the constituent database.
  • Assist with processing philanthropic gifts to ensure timely and accurate acknowledgement of contributions.
  • Strengthen donor relations by engaging students and campus leadership in thanking and recognizing donors in alignment with Advancement stewardship guidelines.
  • Engage with alumni, donors, prospective donors, students, and UPIKE leadership – in person, by phone, and electronically – to support fundraising, alumni engagement, and stewardship initiatives.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a University of Pikeville masters degree program and eligible for participation in the graduate assistant program (Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better preferred).
  • Must have excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Must have excellent writing skills, critical thinking skills, and be self-directed.
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g., computer, copiers, scanner, multiline office phone.
  • Must be comfortable learning constituent databases. 
  • Must be dependable and interact as a functioning member of the Advancement team.

**Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing & a meal plan.  However, if the GA does not reside on campus, then he/she will receive a monthly stipend in lieu of room & board. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

**This position requires a two-year commitment.
