Position Overview
The Forestry Intern will support the Westervelt Forest Resources Group in a hands-on, field-based role designed to provide practical experience in forest management. This is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing a degree in forestry, natural resources, or a related field to gain exposure to real-world operations and decision-making.

 Key Responsibilities

Interns will assist with:
Harvest Planning & Operations – Learn how timber harvests are planned and executed.
Roadwork – Participate in layout and maintenance of forest road systems.
Silviculture Planning & Operations – Support reforestation, site prep, and vegetation management.
Nursery & Seed Orchard Work – Gain insight into seedling production and genetic improvement.
BMP Implementation – Help ensure Best Management Practices are followed to protect water quality and soil health.

Requirements
Currently pursuing a degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a related field.
Must have completed summer camp.
Knowledge of general outdoor skills.
Ability to effectively work in a team environment with employees and customers.
Strong work ethic, adaptability, and interest in fieldwork.
Good physical condition and ability to perform under adverse climatic working conditions and difficult terrain.
Ability to work outside, often for long periods on foot.
Willingness to relocate to one of the internship sites for the summer.
Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and the ability to operate a 4-wheel drive pickup.
Work schedules will be adjusted to the requirements of the activities and projects.
