Our Story

The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community‐based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting which enhances the independence and dignity of each person. WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides housing for low‐ income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness.

Position Description

The Porter is responsible for keeping the residential building, SRO (single room occupancy) units, and public areas of the residential building neat and organized.

This is a full-time position (5) days a week on-site.

Responsibilities

• Regular maintenance (mopping, vacuuming, cleaning walls, handrails, surfaces, doors, collecting garbage) of the following areas including but not limited to

- Common areas in the mezzanine and lobby, offices, stairwells, elevator and laundry room located on the basement floor

- Sidewalk and front of building is clean and free of hazards (Snow or ice)

• Regular cleaning of the elevator (including, but not limited to: walls, interior and exterior doors, door-tracks.)

• Regular maintenance of all shared bathrooms on the mezzanine, the lobby and the resident floors (clean all surfaces, mop floors, empty garbage, assure adequate supplies of paper products and soap)

• Maintain cleaning checklists

• Other duties as assigned

Required Skills / Abilities

•  Ability to work in a multicultural and diverse environment

• Ability to perform job responsibilities

• Ability to speak, read, and write English (as required by DSS regulation 487.9.13)

Education & Experience

• High School. Diploma or GED, or a combination of education and relevant experience

• Experience working with and around dependent persons

Physical Requirements

• Must have the ability to walk, bend, stoop, climb and lift up to 30lbs.

WSFSSH has steadily grown over the past twenty-five years and now operates twelve buildings, serving 1800 people with a wide range of housing needs.
